Travelling to Victoria

Victoria, British Columbia, is located on Vancouver Island, which is just off the west coast of North America. There is no bridge to the island; access is by ferry or air only. Approximate flight time from Montreal is 6 hours; from Toronto, 5 hours; from the city of Vancouver, 30 minutes.

There are many transportation possibilities for getting to Victoria.

AIR
The Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is operated by the Victoria Airport Authority,

There are several options for traveling between Victoria International Airport and downtown:

  • Several different companies operate taxis from the airport, where they are easy to find at the exit near the arrivals gate. The estimated one-way fare to downtown is $50.
  • The AKAL Airport Shuttle provides daily half-hour service between the Victoria International Airport and downtown. The estimated fare is $16 one-way. For exact fares and schedules, please visit their website or phone 1-877-386-2525.
  • The Victoria Regional Transit System offers limited bus service from the Victoria International Airport, with six daily trips to downtown for a fare of $2.75 one-way. For more information, please call (250) 382-6161 or view the bus schedule.

Harbour Air is located in the harbour of downtown Victoria, and has daily flights from Vancouver, Langley, and Richmond. For flight information, please call 1-800-665-0212 or visit their website.

Helijet Airways is also located in the harbour of downtown Victoria. They run daily trips between downtown Victoria and downtown Vancouver, as well as trips between downtown Victoria and Vancouver International Airport from Monday to Friday. GROUND

Pacific Coach Lines operates coach service between Victoria and Vancouver, with stops at the Vancouver Airport, Tsawwasssen Ferry Terminal, and Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. For information on fares and schedules, please call 1-800-661-1725 or visit their website.

OCEAN

BC Ferries operates the ferry between Tsawwassen, south of Vancouver, and Swartz Bay, north of Victoria. Information regarding their schedules and fares can be found at their website or by phoning 1-888-BC FERRY.

There are several options for traveling between Swartz Bay and downtown:

  • Pacific Coach Lines offers service to downtown Victoria for passengers on board BC Ferries. Tickets are sold during the first 30 minutes of each sailing from Tsawwassen, and passengers board the coach before it exits the ship.   • Several different companies operate taxis from the ferry terminal, where they are easy to find at the main foot passenger exit. The estimated fare one-way fare to downtown is $60.
